- First, you always need to say in your question what show or kind of show you're auditioning for and what role if you know. Since you're asking for something "old," I'm guessing that you're auditioning for something by ... Rodgers and Hammerstein? Cole Porter? Frank Loesser? Find out who wrote the show you're auditioning for and use another of his songs. For instance, if you're auditioning for R and H's Oklahoma and want the part of Will Parker, don't sing "Kansas City" but use something like "!6 Going on 17" from Sound of Music. And don't even think about using one of the songs by any of the people you've listed above if you're trying out for a legitimate Broadway musical. Only if you're trying outr for a musical that actually has pop music in it -- like Mamma Mia or Movin' Out -- would you use a pop song for your audition.
- try Beating Hearts Baby by Head Automatica. it's really upbeat and catchy and its from like five or so years ago so it hasnt been overplayed
- Okay well actormyk is right. Use something from contemporary musical theater. Try "Here I Am" from "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels". Really you should do this on your own because it all depends on your voice and particular style. I could make a whole list but I'm busy looking for a monologue. - If you are singing in an audition, chances are they will want a piece from a musical. For women, "Dancing All the Time" from "Big" is a good choice (if you can vocally swing it). Above all, do not do something from Wicked thinking that that will stand out in their minds: half the people auditioning may be singing something from Wicked, and unless they can vocally compete w/t actual Broadway stars they will be forgotten. Guy's pieces from musicals that would be good include "Mama Says" from Footloose and "Giants in the Sky" from "Into the Woods". If you are auditioning for a record company, stick w/a song you can really get into. If you don't feel the emotion, you picked the wrong song. What you sing won't matter as much as how much feeling you give and how well you sing. If you sing your heart out and give a vocally sound, memorable performance, that is all you can do. Try to avoid national anthem-like songs.
- You didn't even get an audition yet. You won't need to sing because macy doesn't sing.. Wait till you actually GET the part.
