Jordin Sparks controversy?
I am disgusted by the criticism aimed at Jordin Sparks! She is a wonderful singer, and very beautiful! But i go on the internet and see people calling her obese, sasquatch, a hog, and too fat to be american idol. Meme Roth cannot label Jordin as unhealthy just by looking at her! She is far from obese, she may be a little overweight but who CARES?? i thought it was a singing competition! I was acually very happy jordin won because she proved that you dont have to be a skinny little twig to win! If a skinny anorexic girl won, would they call her the picture of unhealth? The answer is no! If a beautful person like jordin sparks can be called ugly then Our society has become fully corrupted.
I once read a banner reading this: " if the definiton of beauty gets any smaller...no one will fit" I feel it appiles perfectly here.
Does anyone agree with me???? I will post the link to that banner, if u agree paste it into an email and forward it to everyone you no!
To the first anwser: i wasnt specifically talking about the meme roth thing, although i STILL think she had no right to tell that to the world! it would be embarrasing for Jordin!! But thank you for the opinion anyway, it did clear some things up.
and like i SAID maybe she is overweight but she is hardly obese!
link to the banner: http://www.herinteractive.com/prod/links/index.shtml it is under the caption "turn beauty inside out" just copy and paste it inot an email.

- This is the letter MeME sent me today: Thx for the msg. NAAO's focus is the eating disorder that's plaguing two-thirds of our adults and 30% of our children... That in no way implies a lesser gravity of other eating disorders. Also, pls note the difference between the over-the-top set-up to introduce me during one interview compared to my own comments. I did say Jordin Sparks was "overweight," not obese. Also, I've never suggested Jordin Sparks should lose weight. The failure rate for dieting is 95%...NAAO is against it. Instead we urge PREVENTION and for those who are overweight already, we ask that they reduce their risk of disease and premature death by exercising daily and getting the processed, packaged "fake food" out of their shopping carts. In addition to working for years to rid junk food from schools, I'm currently involved in the many bills on Capitol Hill at the moment addressing the paltry budget for nutrition education and outmoded laws that keep junk food in school and fresh fruits & veggies out. The comments in the one interview about Miss Sparks losing weight were about the dangerous fad diets Hollywood forces upon its celebrities, not a recommendation from NAAO. I'm sorry for any misunderstanding about that. Sadly, Miss Sparks was shopping at Lane Bryant by age 12...a plus-sized model a couple years later...and clearly overweight at age 17. She gives interviews boasting of loving ice cream, steak, pasta and eating two creme brulees instead of one. She calls this being a "normal teen." This message doesn't help today's kids. It would be wonderful if instead she became the role model for daily exercise and eating lean protein, whole grains, fresh fruits & veggies, and drinking water instead of soda. The blame for today's child obesity crisis is on all of us parents who refuse to acknowledge our role in abusing our children with food...as pleasurable as that abuse is. If we want to avert eating disorders of either extreme and instill self-esteem and positive body image into our children, we must teach them from day one to love their bodies by taking care of them with healthful food choices and exercise. Pretending "overweight" is "baby fat," "big-boned," or "curvy" isn't helping any of us...or our children. Thanks for taking the time to write. And for the record on statements about my own weight... I try to make good food and exercise choices and maintain a healthy BMI of 20. Having come from a long line of obesity, it's not as easy as it could be. - I totally agree with you. She is a wonderful singer, and I am glad she won too, because I was rooting for her. I liked Blake too because he was very original. I will pass your message on. Thank you for letting me know that
- Good saying indeed. Yes I agree. We let the media rule when we should just shut it off. Stop buying the magazines and garbage they try to sell. Stop doing what all these pea brain celebrities do. What do they have but misery? And they pass that misery down to everyone else. It's nice when they have all day long to binge and purge and exercise and get massages and pedicures etc. etc. etc...but who in real life lives that way? It's an illusion that is sold to you....and people suck it up big time, especially children who don't know the difference between what is real and what isn't and they buy all this garbage. That is why society is so sick...it's a disease at this stage that the pigs of the world passed down to people. It's time to make sausages out of them and hang them out to dry.
- Hey!, yeah i totally agree with you.. just because shes over weight doesn't mean she cant sing or anything. All the critics that are saying that she is obese and everything are SO stuck on one image. They all think when you think star you think slim and beautiful... but hey queen latifa is big and people love her, Missy Elliot is sorta big. But know people are having trouble with their weight... either they are like skin and bones skinny or they are big... but Jordin is NOT FAT!!!!! So what if she has a little meat on her at least she looks healthy... i feel so bad for her.. it would suck to go through what she is going through...
- i am so glad someone said that..i agree with you 100% i showed my mom the tape with what meme roth said and she was so upset and my mom is 5'0 115 pounds and would kill to be jordin's size. i think jordan is the perfect american idol. the average american is not a size 2. she is perfect the way she is and the competition is singing not who has the hottest body and it just shows that you dont have to be perfect to be somebody in the world. also i think that with people calling jordin obese is obsurd because jordin couldnt be any bigger than a size 10 so they are sayin that people that are maybe two sizes smaller than her are over weight and so on...they are the reasons why young men and women these days think that they wont be anything in life because they arent perfect and they are the reason why girls as young as 8 have eating disorders from the fact of being scared they will be ridiculed by people like the ones calling her obese and they are the reason why young girls get plastic surgery for birthday gifts and graduation gifts and why people have plastic surgery addictions and why people are so insecure of themselves...all to be like what america today believes is beautiful. i think that people who has at least a couple of flaws should be considered american idol. because the plain fact that AMERICA ISN'T PERFECT!! i understand that they want people to work towards being healthier and beautiful but who is she to say who is beautiful and who is healthy?
- She's a beautiful girl. And she's still young and her body is still developing, so much of what she has is "baby fat" anyway - not that, that is the point. Yes, it is disgusting. What I'd like to know, not to take it to another tangent, is why when there is a young lady who happens to have a few lbs, all heck breaks loose...but what about Ruben? There's nothing wrong w/Ruben, this is strictly a point-by-point thing and I don't recall hearing anything about Ruben's weight -- at least not a controversial, personal attack such as was directed towards Jordin. Seems like the double standard is still there. Also, there have been other guys/gals who have been a little weighty, and nothing has been said about them. I just think it's a real bad thing - and instead of her moment in the sun being a wonderful event, she has to deal w/nasty people right off the bat - and it has nothing at all to do w/her singing. It's disgusting at the highest level disgusting could go and that person should be extremely ashamed of their actions.
- I AGREE TOO! HOW DARE THEY SAY THAT ABOUT HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS A SINGING COMPETITON NOT LOOKS!! IF THEY WANTED BEAUTIFUL PEEPS TO SING IT SHOULD BE SINGIN FOR MODELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- I agree with you. Its not as if Jordin being talented and famous at her size is going to advertise being big (and she isn't big); if anything it would let people know that there are people, and specifically, women of different sizes than just incredibly thin. If this is wrong then we should also burn the artworks of Peter Paul Reubens, Jacques Louis David because their paintings contain somewhat voluptuous women. Besides, she is hardly overweight. She may seem large for her age but, that is possibly because she has "blossomed" quite early possibly. And if she is to be diagnosed like anyone else it needs to be one on one and includes tests and assessments.
